this was a very well attended and received performance.  The wonderful Laura Sandage joined us with vocals, standup bass, and percussion, a real fine Davis musical presence indeed.  Lots of old friends came out to see me and us, and it was a very fine night.

Idiom Theater

The Green Frog Acoustic Tavern

I play piano and harmonicas in this outfit, with occasional vocals tossed in.  Not to be missed, this is an amazing, fun, and wild show. 

Robert Blake, singing his songs, and covers either as compelling as his own, or simply great fun to play and sing.  He is joined by myself, Jordan Rain the Yogoman on drums, Thomas and Mars of Yogoman and Lucky Brown fame on tenor sax and trombone, and Aaron Harmonson on bass.

This group enters into deep listening and improvisation with one another, and all the while, Robert is entertaining you with his fantastic songs, great voice and guitar playing, and yes, his stories. 

We have been playing the Frog every Monday night all December and January, one more show to go for now before we go into a studio to record.

String Band Jamboree !

The String Band Jamboree is  the greatest & sweetest thing about Bellingham in the summertime ! Families, students, professionals of all kinds, music lovers of all shapes and sizes gather to relax, listen, camp, jam, and dance ~

Friday night is going to be Magic......... after we play, will be Anais Mitchell, and you don't want to miss her.  Then CR Avery, followed by The Gallus Brothers !

Well, somethings just keep getting better and better,
and the String Band Jamboree is one of them ~ The wedding we
played the next day went great with happy people and band, and I am going to
be feeling the glow of the 10the annual Jamboree for weeks to come ~

Well, seems we've recreated a version of the High Wide & Handsome Band, a group that I recorded with maybe ten years ago.  The wonderful Robert Sarazen Blake fronts this group, and we have Chris Glass on fiddle, Aaron Harmonson on bass, and myself on what I do all backing up Robert with his beautiful and highly entertaining songs ~

Then on to the Honeymoon of course for the regular Naked Hearts Thursday night show 8:30 ~ 11 or so.

The Honeymoon

Soon we will be playing on the patio of the Honeymoon with these warm summer nights.  Dan Duggin, our accordion man, is coming up from Skagit County only twice a month now.  When he is there, we are a quartet juicy and phat with his sound and rhythms.  When he is not, we become a bit more introspective and you may notice Aaron, our very fine bassist, stretching out a bit more.  We end up creating new textures and spaces between the guitar, mandolin, and bass, and its quite fun, and most interesting, at least to us ...   (  No complaints so far  )..... Then those explorations gradually become integrated in some way to our overall sound, and Dan is quick to pick up on anything new we may come up with. Its a great process and the growing audience sure seems to be enjoying it.

Bloom

THE NAKED HEARTS WITH LUCAS HICKS WILL PLAY A FULL ON SHOW FROM 9:30ish To 11 pm Or So ~ COME DANCE...THE BLOOM HAS AND IS AN INCREDIBLE SPACE ! BEFORE THAT WILL BE AN AUCTION OF SOME VERY COOL STUFF STARTING AT 8:30 with Live Music by LOVAGE and an amazing Poem for Haiti by Ellen Murphy. Dr. Frank James will be on hand to share some insights. DURING THE AFTERNOON, AT BLOOM, A SILENT AUCTION WILL BE SET UP, and we'll live auction whatever is left Sat. Night ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO TO DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS IN HAITI

This show was a great time and a great success. We raised over $2000 for Haiti, and its going to Doctors Without Borders. Many sweaty happy bodies and swollen hearts did dance and give at the Bloom, in its sweet and very spacious back space ~
